Ways to Improve Your Memory!

A good memory is often seen as something that comes naturally, and a bad memory as something that cannot be changed, but actually there is a lot that you can do to improve your memory. However, it does mean taking responsibility and making an effort. Here are the experts' top tips.

1. Take an interest — make an effort
We all remember the things we are interested in and forget the ones that bore us. This no doubt explains the reason why schoolboys remember footbal results effortlessly but struggle with dates from their history lessons! Take an active interest in what you want to remember, and focus on it consciously. One way to 'make' yourself more interested is to ask questions — the more the better.

2. Repeat things

Repeating things is the best way to remember things for a short time, e.g. remembering a phone number for a few seconds. 'Chunking' or grouping numbers helps you to remember them, e.g. the following numbers would be impossible for most of us to remember: 1492178919318483. But look at them in 'chunks', and it becomes much easier: 1492 1789 1931 8483.

3. Form a mental picture

Another way to make something more memorable is to think about something visual associated with it. Form a mental picture, and the stranger the picture the better you will remember it. If an English person studying Spanish wanted to remember the Spanish word for duck, 'pato', he/she could associate it with the English verb 'to pat' and imagine a picture of someone patting a duck on the head.

4. Drink in Moderation
Before you settle in to read this article, you may want to get yourself a glass of wine. Surprised that such debauchery begins our list of memory improvers?Memory and alcohol have an interesting relationship,so try

to don’t use it or in smaller quantities.

5. Seek Treatment for Depression

Anything that causes major stress in life, including anxiety or anger, will eventually eat away at the parts of the brain that are responsible for memory. Chief among these stressors is major depression. Depression is often misidentified as a memory problem since one of the main symptoms of the condition is an inability to concentrate. If you can’t concentrate on schoolwork or the information needed to complete a task on the job, then you may feel as if you’re constantly forgetting things. As it is, you’re not even able to concentrate long enough to learn them in the first place.
Depression causes an increase of cortisol levels in the bloodstream, which in turns elevates the amount of cortisol in the brain.

6. Get Moving
Physical exercise is also important for your memory, because it increases your heart rate and sends more oxygen to your brain, and that makes your memory work better. Exercise also reduces stress, which is very bad for the memory.

WonderLand

~ A visit to a miniature fantasy ~

The WonderLand series, still under development, is being composed
by using a unique but rather simple and elegant artificial lighting and household objects (from vegetables to plastic bags).
The photos are shot (mostly) in a miniature studio on the kitchen's table with a Canon EOS 60D Camera, and a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens and Flashes, they are real and not a digital manipulation.
The outcome is a beautiful and magical set with a fairy flair to it.
Stay tuned for new photos and in the meantime - Enjoy!:)

The 4 greatest historical myths

It is said that those who don't know history are condemned to repeat it and as any history buff can tell you, much of history is something you would not want to repeat. However, many well-known historical facts are myths, with no basis in fact. Here are 4 of the most common, which have misled and misinformed people for years, decades, or centuries.

1. Newton was hit by an apple

Apples continued to get bad press with the famous story that scientist Sir Isaac Newton was under a tree, minding his own business, when an apple fell on his head. Just as well it provided him the inspiration for the laws of gravity, or the poor apple would never be forgiven! But while the falling apple is a good story, it probably never happened. The story was first published in an essay by Voltaire, long after Newton's death. Before that, Newton's niece, Catherine Conduitt, was the only person who ever told the story. It was almost certainly an invention.

2. Walt Disney drew Mickey Mouse

One of the world's most famous fictitious characters, Mickey Mouse, is credited to Walt Disney. However, Mickey was the vision of Disney's number one animator, Ub Iwerks. Disney, never a great artist, would always have trouble drawing the character who made him famous. Fortunately for him, Iwerks was known as the fastest animator in the business. He single-handedly animated Mickey's first short film, Plane Crazy (1928), in only two weeks. (That's 700 drawings a day.) But give some credit to Disney when sound films began later that year, he played Mickey's voice.

3. Marie Antoinette said "Let them eat cakes"

In 1766, Jean Jacques Rousseau wrote of an incident he recalled from some 25 years earlier, in which a great princess (name unknown) was told that the country people had no bread. "Then let them eat cakes", she replied. When Rousseau wrote of this, Marie Antoinette was an 11-year-old child in Austria. The French Revolution would not begin for another 23 years. The myth that she spoke these infamous words was probably spread by revolutionary propagandists, to illustrate her cold indifference to the plight of the French people.

4. "The Great Train Robbery" was the first feature film

When it was released in 1903, "The Great Train Robbery" pioneered several techniques, including jump cuts, medium close-ups and a complex storyline. But the first feature film? It was only ten minutes long! Even most short films are longer than that. The first feature-length film was a 100-minute Australian film, "The Story of the Kelly Gang", released three years later. Even if you think of a feature film as the feature of a cinema program, the title would go to one of a number of French films made during the 1890s.
